MACCABI ATHLETIC CLUB - REPORT
President : Len Bogatin
Due to COVID-19 Athletics Victoria cancelled almost all of the
usual winter cross country season.
Club training has also been restricted – and currently on hold, as
is all Community Sport.
Despite the lockdown many of our members have been training individually or in
family units and we are quite optimistic that track and field competition will
commence in November (in a ‘normal’’ year, this would have been October).
In between lockdowns 4 of our club members competed at the Australian Track
and Field Championships held in April in Sydney.
Ori Drabkin picked up 4 medals including a gold in the under 17 para 400m whilst
Ben Blecher ran a huge 100m pb of 12.34sec ultimately placing 7th in the under
14 100m final.
Also in April Myer Vorchheimer won the 75-79 year old , 60m sprint at the Victorian
Masters Championships and placed second in 3 other events.
And at the EISM (independent schools Athletic championship) many of our Jewish
schools athletes excelled including Skye Edelstein, Danielle Axarlis, Ben, Jayden
and Kiera Donner, the Chrapot brothers Maor and Ramel, Gidon Datt, Jordan and
Josh Levy, Adam Benson, Toby Hearst, Nic Hershan, Hayden Goldberg, Jarrod
Zuchowski and Asher Grodski – and many more.
And in August, of course, “our” Jemima Montag sensationally finished 6th at the
Tokyo Olympics in the 20K road racewalk.
