AJAX SENIOR CRICKET - REPORT

Season 2020/2021 was a wonderful and successful season for Maccabi Ajax
Cricket Club. After an extended off-season due to Covid, we commenced in
mid-November with initial reductions to 40 over games with Covid training
restriction forcing us to have different starting times and breaking up into groups
that couldn’t change.
Pleasingly, we started the season with nearly 50 registered players, which was the
highest number for several years. With only three teams, these numbers meant
that we had to rotate players in the thirds to ensure some equity for everybody.

Congratulations to our 2nd eleven, who won the premiership after being on top of
the ladder for most of the season. Great credit goes to the captaincy of Jeremy
Hoppe for leading his team from bottom of the grade in the previous season to
winning the premiership.

Our 1st eleven had a wonderful season, but unfortunately lost in the grand final.
Amir Meyerowitz scoring a century and Mark Soffer taking a hat trick were the
outstanding highlights of the season, with many other team members having
strong performances.

The 3rd eleven also made the finals, after winning several games late in the
season to make the finals.
