UP AND AWARE - 8

                        Exercise and Discuss:
Imagine that your school is hosting a student exchange programme with a school in Brazil.

You have to stay with a host family and their child, Santiago, will stay with yours.

Santiago will have an opportunity to visit some parts of India, other than your town/city.
He writes to you and tells you about his school, city and his country.

Here’s what he wants to know from you. Be as creative as you can. You can take the help of

                the given images.

                      Hi…

I’m so excited to visit your city and country. My passport is ready and I am

ready to fly half-way across the world. Do you have a passport? What
                                  does it look like?

Please tell me something about your country and your city. I have
a small family but I have read that many Indian families can be
large and live together. It must be a lot of fun to grow up with
                                      cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Here in Brazil, we celebrate many festivals and they all have special
meanings, some to honour the living and others to honour our saints.

Celebrations also mean traditional food with family and friends. And, of course,
there is the Rio Carnival which is the world’s biggest party on the streets. What
are some of the unique festivals of India? Tell me what they mean and what they
mean to your family and you.

I love to play football, as all Brazilians do. It’s a game of national pride and an
important part of our culture. What games do you play in India? Which is the
oldest game of your country? Is that different from your national game?

I would like to visit your most famous monuments and know their history. I will
tell you about our iconic statue of Christ when we meet.
