UP AND AWARE - 7
What do you think about the diversity of Africa? Do you think it is desirable to have such
diversity?
Exercise and Discuss:
Your facilitator will paste a label on your forehead with a pre-written message that
everyone in the class will be able to read except you.
You have to walk up to the other learners as if you
were at a party. None of the learners know what
the label on their forehead says.
Your facilitator will take you through this
exercise following which you can discuss
the questions below:
One way to celebrate diversity is to
make others feel included.
What can we do to change our non-verbal
behaviour (facial expressions and body
language) to help everyone feel included?
What do people, who are left out or excluded
sometimes, do?
Sometimes they get together and form their own groups. Perhaps, this happened during
this activity.
Exercise and Discuss:
On a chit of paper (reuse a piece of rough/
used paper), write down one thing about
yourself that makes you who you are – a
unique skill or talent – for example, if you
sing, play an instrument, skate, like to bake,
play chess, etc. Do NOT write your name
on it.
All the learners will put their chits in
a bowl.
