Javi raises his hands, trying to calm her.
Javi:
"I’m not here to hurt anyone."
Gelia: (still panicking)
"Please, don’t take her! She doesn’t understand. I—I’ll keep her hidden, I swear. We won’t cause any
trouble."
Abigaile: (looking up at her mom)
"Mom, it’s okay. He’s nice. He said he wouldn’t hurt me."
Gelia glares at her daughter, her voice trembling.
Gelia:
"You don’t know what they do, Abigaile. You don’t understand."
Javi: (softly)
"She’s right. I’m not like the others. I don’t want to hurt you or your daughter."
Gelia: (still wary, but desperate)
"Then why are you still working for them? If you don’t want to be like them, why are you one of
them?"
Javi doesn’t know how to answer. He’s been asking himself that same question for days, but now, face-
to-face with this mother and her child, it hits him harder than ever. His silence makes Gelia shake her
head in frustration.
Gelia: (angry, but trying to stay calm)
"You’re part of the problem. You kill people like me. People who just want to live. You let them control
everything, and you enforce it."
Abigaile tugs at her mother’s arm, trying to ease the tension.
Abigaile:
"Mom, stop. He’s not like that."
