Javi: (quiet, regretful)
"Maybe I am. Maybe I’ve been lying to myself all along."
For a moment, there’s an awkward silence. Javi feels the weight of his uniform like a chain around his
neck, pulling him down. He stares at Abigaile, this little girl who should have never existed in this world,
and something inside him begins to shift.
Javi: (sighing, conflicted)
"Look, I… I don’t know what to do anymore. I used to believe in this system, but now I’m not so sure.
But if I let you go… If they find out…"
Gelia: (pleading)
"Please. We’ve been hiding for years. Abigaile doesn’t deserve this. She deserves a chance to live, to
be free."
Javi looks at Gelia, then down at Abigaile. He’s torn, his mind racing with the consequences of what
he’s about to do. He’s been following orders his whole life, but now, standing here, it feels wrong.
Everything about this feels wrong.
Javi: (softly)
"Go. Get out of here before anyone else sees you."
Gelia looks at him in disbelief.
Gelia:
"You're letting us go?"
Javi: (nodding)
"I didn’t see anything. But you need to be careful. This city isn’t safe for people like you. Not
anymore."
Gelia: (grabbing Abigaile’s hand, eyes filled with gratitude)
"Thank you… Thank you, officer."
As Gelia pulls Abigaile away, the little girl waves at Javi, her smile full of warmth and innocence. For the
first time in a long time, Javi feels something inside him break free—something he thought he had lost.
