Together, we prepare people for work.
Electronic devices, online resources, and social media are powerful means to promote the organization’s
mission; generate revenue; increase recruitment/involvement and foster interaction among employees,
volunteers, participants, customers, and the public. The use of these devices, resources, and media also
present certain risks and responsibilities. Employees who use electronic devices, online resources, and
social media as a representative of GESMN must do so in compliance with GESMN policies and in a
manner that builds or maintains the organization’s identity, integrity, and reputation.
This policy covers the electronic devices assigned for your work (e.g., computers, tablets, cell phones)
and everything that you do with those devices using online resources and social media (e.g., email,
internet, GESMN websites and microsites, parent organization websites, all other websites, blog
comments and posts, viral email campaigns, podcasting, mobile/small screen networking tools, photo-
sharing sites, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, wikis and other tools and
technologies as they become available).
Failure to follow this policy may result in discipline up to and including termination of employment.
For more information, see Acceptable Use of Information Security, Electronic Devices, Online Resources,
and Social Media (A-011) in the Policies and Procedures section on the organization’s intranet.
USE OF CELLULAR PHONES AND WIRELESS DEVICES
Employees who work in retail stores are prohibited from using and carrying personal cell phones or
other cellular/wireless devices while at work. Employees who bring their cell phones or other
cellular/wireless devices to work must leave them locked in their locker until their breaks and may only
use them in the break room, if available, or designated smoking area at their location. After returning
from breaks, all cellular/wireless devices must be placed back in the locker before the employee clocks
in and resumes their shift. No cellular/wireless device may be used to take photos of co-workers or
pictures on any GESMN property.
Store phones may be used in an emergency with the approval of a manager.
Employees working in an office setting are expected to restrict their personal cell phone use and/or text
messaging to breaks or non-work time whenever possible.
Goodwill-Easter Seals is not liable for the loss of personal cell phones or other cellular/wireless devices
brought into the workplace.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Employees cannot be involved in decisions or matters in which they have a personal or business
interest. A conflict of interest typically exists when an employee, or a person associated with the
employee, has an interest in or a relationship with any individual or organization that proposes to enter
into a transaction or contract with Goodwill-Easter Seals.
