Together, we prepare people for work.
For more information, see Absenteeism and Tardiness (B-107 and B-108) in the Policies and Procedures
section on the organization’s intranet.
NURSING MOTHERS
For up to one year after a child’s birth, nursing mothers will be provided reasonable break times in a
private area to express breast milk for their baby. Nursing mothers may use their meal and paid break
times for lactation purposes; any break times beyond Goodwill-Easter Seals provided breaks are unpaid.
Nursing mothers should discuss their need for extra break periods or private space with their manager
or Human Resources.
EMPLOYMENT OF FAMILY MEMBERS AND SIGNIFICANT OTHERS
Although Goodwill-Easter Seals does not prohibit the employment of family members or significant
others and understands that people working together sometimes develop close relationships, including
romantic ones; dating and physical relationships between employees or between an employee and a
vendor or participant can affect the workplace by creating potential conflicts of interest or other
workplace issues.
If an employee has a familial, dating, or physical relationship with another GESMN employee, vendor, or
participant, the employee must remove themselves from any decisions or actions relating to that
employee, vendor or participant, or their work with GESMN. If an employee acts or makes any decisions
which could be called into question because of their relationship, the employee will be subject to
disciplinary action, up to and including termination. This includes the following types of decisions (these
are examples only – others may also be included).
• Compensation (merit increases, bonuses, benefits, or other compensation decisions).
• Performance evaluations and/or promotions or transfers.
• Work assignments (apart from day-to-day work).
• Performance Management (including performance improvement plans, discipline,
suspension, demotion, or terminations).
• For vendors or customers, any payments or services beyond what was agreed to prior to the
personal relationship or the assignment of any additional work to a vendor.
We consider the following to be family members or significant others:
• Spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew,
first cousin, in-laws (mother, father, sister, brother, daughter, or son), uncle or aunt.
• Persons who are related by blood or marriage.
• Adopted, step, and foster variations of the above.
• Roommates.
