Together, we prepare people for work.
RECORDING DEVICES
Goodwill-Easter Seals generally prohibits the use of cameras, camera phones, tape recorders, or other
audio or visual recording devices in the workplace — to secure employee and participant privacy, trade
secrets, and other proprietary and confidential business information. Employees are also prohibited
from engaging in any recording of conversations, phone calls, or similar workplace activities.
Employees can only use video and/or audio recording devices in the workplace with specific advance
authorization from their department's head. Authorization may be granted when a particular business
purpose will be served by the possession or use of such a device and when its use will not violate
employee or participant privacy.
In such a case, those participating in the meeting or conversation being recorded must be informed at
the outset that it will be monitored, transcribed, intercepted, or recorded, and must have consented to
such actions, preferably in writing, prior to the conversation. Failure to obtain authorization may result
in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
SOLICITATION AND DISTRIBUTION
Employees may not solicit, nor may any employee willingly accept solicitation for any purpose during
working time. Working time refers to the working time of the person doing the soliciting, as well as the
working time of the individual being solicited. Working time does not include the time before or after
work, meal periods, or other break times (whether paid or unpaid).
Employees may not distribute, receive, or post non-work-related literature for any purpose during their
working time, nor may employees distribute non-work-related literature in working areas at any time.
Employees may not post or hang literature on bulletin boards, walls, windows, or other GESMN property
locations. Individuals not employed by GESMN may not solicit or distribute literature for any purpose on
property owned or controlled by GESMN at any time. This policy does not restrict solicitation or
distribution of literature related to GESMN business functions or limited employer-sponsored charities.
For purposes of this policy:
• Solicitation is asking, encouraging, or recommending that employees contribute money,
submit signatures, or become members of an organization. It also includes selling goods,
services, merchandise, or tickets.
• Distribution is delivering non-work-related literature, merchandise, or other material.
• Non-work areas include employee rest areas such as break rooms and restrooms.
