Together, we prepare people for work.
Office/professional staff use a “Dress for Your Day” approach, which supports the changing work
environment, maximizing comfort while maintaining professionalism. What does “Dress for Your Day”
mean? It means using good judgment when deciding what to wear every day, with just a few basic
guidelines. Employees are to consider their workday and take it from there. The expectation is that
clothing will be appropriate for the nature of the business and the type of work performed. This allows
the flexibility to dress in a way that adheres to each employee’s schedule for that day. For client or
prospect meetings, marketplace events, recruitment activities, or other professional circumstances,
employees must dress business casual. “Dress for Your Day” is all about showing individuality while
maintaining good judgment.
Most retail store positions require a dress code or a uniform. If a uniform is required, it must be worn
during all scheduled work hours.
Exposure to some fragrances and scents may cause others to experience asthma or allergic reactions,
including upper respiratory irritation and headaches. Employees are encouraged to use personal care
products that are either low odor or fragrance-free.
If your manager believes your clothing or appearance is inappropriate for the workplace, you will be
asked to leave and return to work in attire that is more appropriate.
For more information, see Dress Code and Apparel Policy (A-012) in the Policies and Procedures section
on the organization’s intranet.
ATTENDANCE
Employees are expected to be in their work area, ready to begin work, at their scheduled work time.
While Goodwill-Easter Seals expects regular and punctual attendance from all employees, we also
recognize that circumstances beyond the individual's control will be occasions where it becomes
necessary for persons to be absent or tardy from work. If an employee cannot report to work or
anticipate being late, they must notify their manager as soon as possible, but no later than one hour
before their scheduled start time.
Excessive short-term absences or repeated late arrivals may lead to discipline up to and including
termination of employment. An employee who has been absent for two consecutive scheduled shifts
and has neglected to contact a manager will be considered a no call/no show. No call/no show may be
regarded as job abandonment, which will be reflected as a voluntary resignation. The individual may not
be eligible for rehire.
Any employee who has gone from work for more than three days due to illness must reach out to
benefits to determine whether their absence counts towards FMLA.
GESMN job-site locations may have their own attendance and punctuality standards. Consult your
manager for information on specific requirements.
