employee’s usual weekly or daily work schedule). When leave is needed for planned medical treatment,
the employee must make a reasonable effort to schedule treatment so as not to unduly disrupt the
               employer's operation.

Leave to care for or bond with a newborn child or for a newly-placed adopted or foster child may only
be taken intermittently with the employer’s prior approval and must conclude within 12 months after
               the birth or placement.

               MINNESOTA (MN) PARENTAL LEAVE
MN Parental Leave gives employees the ability to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave
upon the birth or adoption of a child. The leave must start within 12 months of the birth or adoption.
Employees may choose when the leave begins within that 12-month period.

To be eligible for MN Parental Leave, you must have worked at least half-time (20 hours) for 12 months
and been employed with GESMN for at least 12 months. (There is no lookback period for months of
service.) Employees that live in Wisconsin will be deemed eligible for this as if they lived in MN.

More information on MN Parental Leave can found on the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry.
You can also contact The Standard for more information on this type of leave and to apply for MN
               Parental Leave.

WHAT ACCOMMODATIONS IS AN EMPLOYEE ENTITLED TO DURING OR AFTER PREGNANCY?

A pregnant employee is entitled to these accommodations without having to provide a note from a
doctor or any other “proof” that the accommodation is necessary:
                   • More frequent restroom breaks or food/water breaks
                   • Seating arrangements
                   • A limit of lifting more than 20 pounds

WHAT IF AN EMPLOYEE NEEDS A LEAVE OF ABSENCE BUT IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FMLA OR MN
               PARENTAL LEAVE?
If you are not eligible for FMLA or MN Parental Leave, an employee can apply for a personal leave of
               absence.

               PERSONAL LEAVE

Personal leave is for individuals who may not qualify for job-protected leave under FMLA, or for MN
Parental Leave but still need time away from work.

Personal Leave is at the discretion of management based on an employee’s individual circumstances and
business needs. A request for time away from work that extends beyond two weeks in length would
typically be classified as personal leave.
