having a point scored against them.

In the Metropolitan Premiership semi-final they met a strong Newmarket
      team and were defeated 22-nil.

Ron was selected to represent Brisbane during the August vacation.

      Boy Swimmers contest strongly-

This year the Boys’ Swimming Carnival was held on the 13th March at
the Manly Baths. After much thought and organization by our teaching stall
and the house captains, the following performances were recorded in the four
      age-groups.
         OPEN—Champion: Peter Bell (O)
                Runner-up: Robin Ricketts (C)
This age-group provided the keenest competition of the day. P. Bell, 32
points, and R. Ricketts, 26 points, were closely challenged by S. MacDonald,
20 points, and M. MacDonald, 18 points. Peter Bell won a closely contested
100 yards from R. Ricketts and M. MacDonald; while S. MacDonald and R.
Ricketts showed their ability in the breast-stroke and back-stroke events. The
highlight of the day, though, was the open 400 yards. P. Bell who maintained
a fair lead for 10 laps of this gruelling race was just beaten by M. MacDonald
with a strong finishing burst over the last two lengths. The time was 6 mins.
42.2 secs. Other boys who competed were: J. Kennedy (K), G. Boyd (M), and
      J. Lindley (O). These results testify to the great deal of early morning training
carried out by these open swimmers ... an example which many boys of this
      school could and should follow.
         UNDER 16—Champion: Alan Preston (O)
                 Runner-up: Wayne Young (K)
This was the only age-group to suffer a virtual monopoly of points. A.
Preston, four firsts and a second, and W. Young, two firsts and two seconds,
left little for Cunningham and Mitchell to fight over. But thosj who did fight,
and fought hard, were G. Critchley (M), R. Chadwick (M), White (K). and
      B. Preston (M). The 200 yards went to A. Preston (O) in the record time of
2 mins. 46.7 secs. B. Preston, second, swimming above his age-group, also broke
the record; while G. Hurren filled third place.
         UNDER 15—Champion: Peter Castleton (O)
                     Runners-up: B. Preston (M), R. Fulton (M), R. Collins (K)
         P. Castleton, 28 points, and the runners-up with 10 points each, were
given plenty of competition by R. Lockwood (O), and P. Triplett (C). There
was a constant competition for placings in this division which augurs well for
      the higher age-groups next year.

         UNDER 14—Champions: T. O’Shea (O), Brown (M), W. Petersen (O)
The three champions gained 10 points each while P. Holland (K), A.
