it was difficult to get cohesion there were several good individual performances.
In the forwards Ian Vayro, Janis Brants and Edgar Berzins were always doing
something constructive while in the back line Mike Graham, Trevor Moss and
Robert Williams strongly supported their captain.
Graham Neville skippered the A team and once again showed himself a
capable leader and a footballer of outstanding ability. He originated many fine
movements which ended in tries and his cover defence was a lesson to all.
In this department he received the wholehearted support of forwards Norm
Brown, John Wiley and Ed. Mattinson while the reliable passing of Alan
Nielsen from the rucks enabled the hard running wingers John Powell and John
Dowding to score many tries. “Old heads” Roberts and Bartlett continued
their solid forward play while newcomer John McFadyen proved himself a
valuable point scorer. After recovering from a badly injured foot Doug
McGregor joined Gilbert Forward to add strength to an already powerful
back line.
With half-back honours being shared by Robert Riley and Kevin Carlton
and the full-back position filled by Norman Bahr this team once again won
its way to the last three on the premiership table.
