FOOTBALL...
This year, the School fielded six teams, five (“A,” “C,” 9st 8st., 7st.)
in QSSSRFL competition and one (6st.) in QSPSRFL competition. Of these
teams, four reached the semi-finals and two went on to win grand finals.
The premiership teams were the “C” grade team and the Nine Stone team.
These performances are as praiseworthy as that of any of the other State
High Schools. The success of the teams was largely due to the enthusiasm
of the boys and the skill of their coaches. It was pleasing to see that at
all times the boys played as sportsmen.
History was made when four members of the Nine Stone team were
selected to play for Queensland in the tests against New South Wales. They
were R. Ricketts (captain), J. Berkery, W. Blaik and N. Gallagher. From
the “A” grade side. Trevor Niebling and Graham Pearson played for Brisbane
against Rockhampton and Toowoomba. Graham Neville, from the Six Stone
team toured with the Brisbane side in North Queensland.
Thanks are extended to all coaches. No fewer than eight teachers
offered their services to Rugby League this year.
The School’s Sports Committee awarded pockets to the following
      players:—
Full Pockets: J. Berkery. W. Blaik, N. Gallagher. R. Ricketts.
           Half Pockets: J. Anderson, A. Davis, H. Davis, R. Griffin, V. Klaikalietis,
           B. Martin, E. Mattinson, S. McDonald, L. Moffat, E. Morgan. G.
           Neville, D. Partis, R. Patterson, R. Sands, A. Travers F. Whatley, R.Winson.

A graders give good account of
                                      themselves-------------

                                 Coach—Mr. Weise.
                                 Captain—Trevor Niebling.
Following the success of last year’s First XIII in “B” Grade com
petition, it was decided that this year the School would field an “A”
Grade team. This team met with mixed success and finished fifth in a
seven team competition. The boys did not at any time disgrace the School’s
football reputation. Inexperience accounted for most of the team’s weak
nesses. Best players were Trevor Niebling, Bruce Fleming and Graham
Pearson who worked hard but did not receive the necessary support.
Congratulations are extended to the premiers, Banyo, on their fine win in
      the Grand Final.
