HIGH SCHOOL 7st. 7lbs. RUGBY LEAGUE.
This year the High School 7st. 7lbs. Rugby League team, under the
coaching of Mr. O’Mara, and leadership of David Parker, had an
extremely successful season to become the premiership holders.
We started the season by a convincing defeat against Indooroopilly
52-nil. The second game, which was against Kedron, resulted in a nil-
all draw. We then played Banyo “B”, who were defeated 19-nil.
Cavendish Road presented a good team, which we narrowly defeated 6-5.
In a very rough game against Industrial we finally rose triumphant to
win 11-7. The next game was against Banyo “A”. This was an extremely
hard game and resulted in a 13-11 win for us. We then went on to
finish the season with 25-nil against Camp Hill, 28-nil against Salisbury
and 8-3 against Mitchelton.
Highest scorer for the season was Ray Brown with 23 points. The
goal-kicking of Jack Stobert won several games for us. Undoubtedly
the best player of the season was David Parker. Other outstanding
players were Ray Brown, Jack Stobert, Allan Apps and John Burnett.
Team results: Won 8, drew 1, lost 0. Points scored 163, against 27.
C TEAM.
The team had a good season, winning six of the eight matches
played. The twc defeats were at the hands of the premiers. Banyo, and
runners-up Industrial.
Played 8, won 6, lost 2. Points for 68, against 19.
V. Indooroopilly: Won 26-nil (Tries R. Martin (2), J. Sands, S.
Robinson, B. Parez, R. Kydd; goals: E. Taylor C2), R. Martin (2).
V. Kedron: Won 3-nil . Try by D. Mee Lee.
V. Cavendish Road : Won 6-nil. Tries: S. Robinson, R. Martin.
V. Industrial I. : Lost 3-nil.
V. Kedron : Won on forfeit.
V. Banyo : Lost 11-nil.
V. Industrial II. : Won 24-nil. Tries: R. Martin (2), A. Peterson,
D. Mee Lee, J. Henderson, S. Robinson; goals : E. Taylor, R. Martin.
V. Mitchelton : Won 9-5. Tries: D. Mee Lee, E. Taylor, S.
Robinson.
The team proved to be a well-balanced combination which always
gave a very good account of itself and stood up to it when the going
became tough. It is difficult to single out individual players in a team
of this nature, but a word of congratulation must go to the captain,
Bob Martin. He not only lead his team well, but played outstanding
football during the season. He was, without doubt, one of the best
forwards playing C grade in the whole competition.
INTERMEDIATE RUGBY LEAGUE.
Fixtures commenced under the auspices of the Queensland State
Schools’ League on April 5 and concluded on July 26.
Five teams participated in the fixtures in the open, 7st. 71b., 6st.
101b., 6st., and 5st. 71b. divisions.
OPEN TEAM.
This team, led by G. Pearson, had a very good season and finished
second in the metropolitan premiership. Interest was maintained
throughout the season and the final game, when they were defeated sev£n
points to five, decided the premiership.
Murray Backwell was the principal points-scorer with 15 points,
followed by G. Pearson with seven and W. Zolte, R. Copland and R.
White with three each.
