                                        BOYS.
Although our two top players of last year were absent from this
year’s “A” team, the two school teams were able to put up a very
creditable performance in inter-school competition. The “A’ and “B"
teams both gained second place in the South Zone competition. In both
cases the conqueror was Salisbury. The schools in the South Zone were
Cavendish Road, Salisbury, Cleveland, Camp Hill and Commercial. In
the “B” team’s first encounter with Salisbury, Wynnum won convincingly
by eight games, while the “A” team was soundly defeated by thirteen.
The second time, Salisbury took no chances and fielded their
strongest “A” team, consisting of two of the foremost juniors in
Queensland, against Wynnum. In this match, Wynnum did particularly
well against them and was only beaten after a hard tussle by eight
            games.
The “B” team was defeated, which meant a play-off between
Salisbury and Wynnum to decide the South Zone winner. They were
unsuccessful, but unlucky. Members of our “A” team were: B. Costello,
            M. Wilson, R. Railings, P. Banney, and of the "B” team : B, Bunker, B.
            Reis, K. Ede, D. Banney.
In Inter-House competition, Griffith was clearly outmatched,
although only defeated by Wentworth by eleven, and Wentworth went
on to win the competition over Lilley after a close match, by four
            games.
Thanks go to Mr. Law and Mr. Cox for supervising tennis during
the year, and to the Wynnum Tennis Association for making their
            courts available.
A special congratulations to the girls’ “A” team, which won the
            premiership in the inter-school competition.
                                    GIRLS’ TENNIS.
Once again this year the tennis fixtures were divided into the North
and South Zones. Commercial, Cavendish Road, Salisbury, Cleveland,
Camp Hill and Wynnum High Schools were included in the South Zone.
Two rounds were played. We did not compete in the G.P.S. fixtures.
The players in the “B” team were Leone Simpson, Lyn Stratton,
Beverley Kidd, Judith Cafferky, Glenice Martin and Frances Ede. They
were not very successful in their rounds, Camp Hill being the only
school they defeated. Many of the other games finished with very
            close results.
The “A” team players were Margaret Pleace, Rhelma Tovey, Wendy
Metcalf and Lyn Newcomb (captain). In the first round they defeated
Commercial and Salisbury and drew with Cavendish Road. In the
second round they defeated the three teams, leaving them with an
undefeated record with five wins and a draw. Cleveland and Camp Hill
did not have an “A” team in the competition.
The “A” team players were winners of the South Zone, and so had
to play the winners of the North Zone to decide the winners of the
