One of the first books that introduced me to the new
age doctrine was The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I also had

10 There are claims that the doctrine in The Secret comes from a
woman, Esther Hicks, who channels an entity who calls itself Abraham
Hicks (who claims to be a “we”). The teachings are based on the Law of
Attraction. I do not recommend reading anything about the Law of
Attraction, the book The Secret, or listening to the advice given through
Esther Hicks. I'm only providing a web address to show that I’m telling
the truth. http://www.allaboutprosperity.com/abraham-hicks the

“inspirational teachings” of “Jerry and Esther Hicks and the teachings
of Abraham.”

In addition, The Secret references scripture. Specifically, on receiving
what you ask for from God. The Secret calls God “the universe,” which is
not the biblical God who created all humanity and who wants a
relationship with us. The Secret takes Jesus Christ's teachings out of
context and asks people to pray to another “god” a/k/a “the universe.”
Also, God is not going to give us something that does not line up with
His doctrine and will. Further, Jesus Christ told His disciples, “When ye
pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day
by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive
every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but
deliver us from evil.” Luke 11:2-4 KJV. God is not a “genie in a bottle,”
and He’s not here to grant sinful wishes; Jesus Christ came to deliver us
from sin and help us be free from it, which is amazing! He’s not going to
answer prayers that are asked to be fulfilled by something He created,
such as the universe.
Many occult related doctrine will use biblical scripture or Jesus Christ's
name, but their doctrine will 1. twist truth making the doctrine false; 2.
omit truth so a person cannot see the whole picture; and, 3. oppose
some or all New Testament teachings.
For example, you may have heard of the “prosperity gospel.” Much of
that “gospel” sounds a lot like the doctrine in The Secret. Years ago, I
had noticed that the doctrine of Lakewood Church sounded like the
doctrine in The Secret. It may still today. I haven’t listened to Joel
