RURAL HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Introduction:-
Throughout the revolving epochs and ages, rural areas in Egypt have
received less than their fair share of national attention and resources,
especially when compared with urban areas. The result was the
existence of a dual situation, consisting of backward rural villages and
advanced urban centers, separated by a developmental gap at the local
and national level alike.
Definitions of terms
Rural areas: An area having less than 99 but more than 6 persons per
square mile, and having less than 20,000 residents .
Or
Is the community where agriculture is the chief occupation of the
population.
Rural Community: A group of people with a common characteristic or
interest living together, in a village. Where agriculture is the chief
occupation of the population.
Urban areas: An area having more than 99 persons per square mile.
Characteristics of rural life-style:-
1. A major portion of rural occupation is agriculture in nature
2. More face to face relationship between the member ships of the
community.
3. Families are bound more closely by social and religious ties.
4. More space: greater distances between residents and services.
5. Lack of anonymity.
6. Cyclic and seasonal recreational activities and leisure time.
7. Tradition, values and believes play a very important role
8. Families groups and neighborhood groups continue to play an
important role in the community life.
9. Mosque, churches and schools are socialization centers.
10. Small family and fewer large industries.
11. Preference for interacting with locals.
