c) Acceptability of services:
Acceptability refers to whether a particular service is offered in a
manner congruent with the values of a target population. Acceptability
of available community nursing services can be harmed by the
following:-
Cultural barriers.
Tradition:- Are those inherited culture values e.g. female
circumcision.
Fatalism:- This is the belief that whatever happens comes from
super natural power e.g. it is commonly believed that illness
comes from god
Ethno centrism:- Every community thinks that their ways of life
are superior to cultures of the other people e.g. daya are more
efficient and or experienced than the medical team of unit.
Relative values:- People put different values on things. e.g. some
communities consider smoking as a sign of dignity and status.
Social barriers.
Group solidarity: One is impressed by the way in which people
hold as ideal of how they ought to behave towards their follows,
e.g. Family obligation, grand father, mother.
Vested interest: Many of health programs threaten the security of
individuals in the community, e.g. Barber, daya.
Socioeconomic factor.
This arises from lower standard of living and poor status.
Educational factors.
Illiteracy is high in rural Egypt than in urban areas; it is a barrier against
dissemination of health knowledge.
Psychological barriers.
Differential perception e.g. female women who have gynecological
problems, she didn't need to go to doctor due to (embarrassment)
