In Giza governorate about 2.5 million people lived in squatter's areas.
Followed by Cairo which is considered to be the 2 governorate After Giza

with 2 million people lived in 79 Squatters Areas followed by Alexandria
which is considered to be the 3 governorate. The number of squatters

areas in Alexandria about 86.
Factors responsible for existence of squatters
1. Migration from rural to urban.
2. Rapid increase of urban population.
3. The rising price of urban land, and housing above the affordable
income.
4. The collapse of old building is the main causes for existence of
squatters.
5. Absence of urban and rural planning.
Slums: A slum is an overcrowded and squalid district of a city or town
usually inhabited by the very poor. Slums can be found in most large cities
around the world.
Characteristics of slums:
Dwelling having four of any or more of the following deficiencies is
considered as slums
1. Contaminated water supply
2. Water supply outside the living unit or shared.
