The goals of Medical Nutrition Therapy ( MNT) that apply to all persons
with diabetes mellitus are as follows:
To control and maintain the ABCs of diabetes.
To prevent and treat the chronic complications of diabetes.
To provide individual’s nutritional needs, and adequate calories in
order to promote a healthy weight.
To improve health through healthy food choices and physical
activity.
Daily Caloric Requirement: (Kcal/Kg)
The total daily caloric requirement should be determined according to
activity level:
Sedentary Life Moderate Very Active
Activity
Obese 25 Kcal./kg 30 Kcal./kg 35 Kcal./kg
Average weight 30 Kcal./kg 35 Kcal./kg 40 Kcal./kg
Under-weight 35 Kcal./kg 40 Kcal./kg 45 Kcal./kg
