                                    6 May 2025 Abbott UK Company Car Handbook2.1 EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE DRIVING CONVICTIONS OR DISQUALIFICATIONSAll employees and pre-approved drivers who drive on behalf of Abbott must inform their line manager and the Human Resources team immediately of any:%u2022 Receipt of a summons to court,%u2022 Endorsements added to their driving licence,%u2022 Driving convictions,%u2022 And/or periods of disqualification.Failure to inform your line manager and Human Resources will be considered a failure to carry out a reasonable instruction and can be considered gross misconduct. On a case-by-case approach Abbott will investigate any loss of driving entitlement and will take relevant action which may result in disciplinary proceedings. Where driving eligibility is revoked due to other circumstances e.g. health, Business Human Resources(BHR) will contact you to make alternative arrangements.2.2 FITNESS TO DRIVE AND JOURNEY PLANNINGIt is every driver%u2019s responsibility to ensure that they are medically fit to drive, irrespective of whether they are doing so for social, domestic or pleasure purposes, or whether they are doing so as a work-related activity. This includes ensuring that your eyesight is at the standard required by the DVLA.If you are driving on behalf of Abbott you must declare to your line manager and BHR if you are suffering from, or diagnosed with, any medical condition that might adversely affect your ability to drive safely (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, vision impairment, etc.), or if you are taking any prescription drugs which might adversely affect your ability to drive. In these circumstances our Occupational Health advisers may be asked to assess you and provide advice; it may be appropriate to relieve you of your driving duties and find suitable means toallow you to continue with your normal work.Drivers are responsible for checking the labels of any non-prescribed medication that they may take. If you are unsure about the potential effects of any non-prescribed medication you should seek the advice of a pharmacist.Abbott recommends that all drivers should plan their journeys in advance and always allow sufficient time for peak traffic, weather conditions, distance being travelled, road works, locations of suitable charging stations etc.2.3 MAXIMUM HOURS DRIVINGAbbott recommends that you do not drive more than 9 hours in any working day, and you should not drive and work in excess of 12 hours in any given day or 24-hour period. In addition, Abbott recommends a 15-minute rest break for every 2 consecutive hours of driving to reduce driver fatigue.2.4 DISTRACTED DRIVERAbbott implemented a formal expectation of prohibiting the use of mobile phones. At a minimum, expectations shall include the following:%u2022 Employees and their eligible drivers are not permitted to use any form of portable electronic device, including but not limited to mobile phones, iPads/tablets and laptops, under the following scenarios:%u2022 No Abbott-issued electronic device may be used at any time while operating an Abbott-issued vehicle, Abbott-funded rental vehicle or personal vehicle. This includes hands-free.%u2022 No Personal electronic device may be used at any time while operating any vehicle when conducting Abbott business. These expectations include the use of both hand-held and hands-free technology.%u2022 If an employee is driving on Abbott business and must make an emergency call, the employee is expected to park the vehicle in a safe location prior to placing the call.%u2022 Managers shall not expect employees to initiate or answer phone calls or electronic messages while driving on Abbott business or Abbott time.
