2.2 Common investigations done for diagnosing
cardiovascular diseases
a) Electrocardiogram (ECG): Test that records the electrical activity of the heart on a
graph paper.
b) ECHO Cardiogram / ECHO Doppler: It is the sonography of the
heart and uses ultrasound techniques to image the heart.
c) Exercise stress test (also called as stress test / treadmill test): This test is done to
assess the functional capacity of the heart and presence of obstruction to blood.
d) Coronary angiography: This procedure is visualization of the coronary
arteries after injection of contrast (dye).
e) Nuclear cardiology: technique uses radioactive isotopes such as thallium to identify the
damaged heart muscles.
f) Cardiac CT: Cardiac CT uses advanced CT technology with or without intravenous yes
to visualize cardiac anatomy
