Q4. What is the preliminary duty of a surveyor
and discuss the process of a survey and loss
assessment.
Ans. A valid licensed Surveyor is handed over cases with
losses exceeding Rs. 20,000. He has to provide two
reports, the preliminary report and the final report based
on his experience, expertise and findings.
The preliminary duty of the surveyor is to
(i) investigate and report on the cause
(ii) ascertain the extent of loss
(iii) advice the insured on loss minimization measures
and protection of salvage.
(iv) submit a detailed report on the above and other
