To facilitate an adequate investigation, the surveyor has
to follow a logical and orderly process which may
consist of the following steps:
(i) A thorough examination of the policy and its
coverage.
(ii) Inspection of the scene of loss and examination of
the property destroyed or damaged to determine
the cause of loss and extent of loss, to render advice
to the insured to minimize loss and protect salvage.
(iii) Examination of books of accounts and other records
to arrive at the correct values of the property
insured and property damaged or destroyed.
(iv) Examination of other records or reports covering
the occurrence of loss.
(v) Preparation and submission of preliminary, interim
and final reports.
