1. Determine Theme
First of all, determine the theme for the essay you
will write. For example, regarding environmental
conservation.
2. Determine the topic that is causing concern
Next, decide what the topic is. Choosing a topic
doesn't just have to be interesting. Most importantly, the
topic comes from our worries and is known by many
people.
3. Determine the Target Reader
Apart from determining the topic of discussion, it
is also necessary to determine who the target readers of
the exposition text are. For example, is it students, or the
general public? Because, the target reader will influence
the delivery of our arguments and suggestions in the text.
4. Collect and select information in the form of data and
facts
Next, collect information in the form of data and
facts to support your argument. For example, it was
discovered that the number of rubbish bins in tourist
areas and other areas was very low. So, many people
throw rubbish carelessly. Don't just have one fact, just
collect as many as possible. After that, you select the data
and facts according to your arguments and thoughts.
Don't let the data and facts presented be too far from your
expectations when choosing the topic.
5. Write down the argument points you want to convey
This is important, so that the argument does not
expand or even deviate. So, write down the points of
argument you want to convey. That way, the delivery of
expository text is more structured and does not stray too
far from the writing idea.
