900 – 999 – GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY – (Geography, History, Biography, etc.)

              Significance of subject matter to support different areas of the curriculum
              Current and/ or permanent value
              Validity, currency and appropriateness of materials.
              Recommendations based on the preview and examination of materials by professional personnel and
               students.
              Reputation and significance of author, producer and publisher
              Integrity and Moral Values
              Timeliness or performance (lasting value of material)
        B.SPECIFIC TYPE OF MATERIALS

               1. FICTION – The Library will not buy fiction that is anticipated to have only short-term
                       interest among readers but will attempt to select, established literary works and   new works of
                       promise in the literary field, especially works which would support leisure reading.  Evaluation
                       will be based on author‘s earlier writing and current reader’s interest.
               2. NON-PRINT MATERIALS – Non-print materials (such as electronic products:
                       videotapes, compact discs, transparencies, and audio cassettes, and other media
                       are considered special or intuitional materials. Request for non-print will be
                       evaluated on the same basis as book materials.  The primary criteria will be the
                       availability of storage space.
               3. FILIPINIANA – a heritage collection of historical works and new works in the field   of governing social
               issues and problems, laws, geography, history, biographies, culture and traditions of the Philippines and
               its people.  Materials will be purchased as needed to support nationality and the curricular programs.


               4. TEXTBOOKS AND LAB. MANUALS – Titles in these Categories are not normally purchased. Exceptions
               are  those  which  are  only  the  best  sources  of  information  on  a  particular  topic.    Such  titles  will  be
               evaluated and added to the collections based on guidelines and policies, and only allows to a maximum
               of 5 copies per title.

               5. SERIALS AND PERIODICALS – The relatively high and continuing cost of serials and periodicals requires
               that duplication of these may occur only in unusual circumstances.
               THE SELECTION TOOLS          The Library provides a number of services to assist the library coordinators
               in the proper selection of library materials.  There are a lot of catalogues and price lists of the book
               jobbers and publishers available at the library.

               A.  PROMOTION MATERIALS
                       Publishers’ catalogues, fliers and leaflets are received by the librarians and distributed to the
                   Deans/ Library coordinators of every College or programs for reference and recommendations for
                   the following purposes:
               New Title information or Notification Slips – These are printed forms, which are   received from the
               Library’s major book suppliers and match a subject profile which the library has established contacts
               with three or more suppliers.  The slips are usually sent directly to the library coordinator for their
               evaluation.
