THE POWER OF READING PEOPLE
Here’s another situation:
“If you overhear a heated disagreement between two colleagues,
what action would you take?”
Always seek concrete evidence to support the claims an applicant
makes. If they claim to be adept at handling stress, ask them to
provide a specific instance of this:
“Can you share an example of a time you were heavily criticized
by a supervisor at your previous job? How did you handle that
situation?”
Key Point: Don’t Accept Generic or Superficial Answers
Avoid accepting generic responses; always probe deeper with
your questions to unearth substantial details about the
candidate’s experiences and behaviors.
Prepare for Questions From the Applicant
When preparing for an interview, keep in mind that applicants will
also seek information from you to determine if there’s a good fit
between themselves, the job, and the company. To facilitate this,
cover these steps in your preparation:
• Prepare comprehensive background material: This could
include a presentation about your company, along with de-
tailed information about the job role, the workplace, and
the work environment. You should provide details about
the organizational structure, management, team members,
clients, job requirements, and the overall atmosphere.
