5.8.11 Preambles to All Trade
Preambles or preliminary requirements are descriptions of the type and quality of
materials, quality of materials and work that are not stated in drawings or other
documents. It refers to the contractor in pricing. The price must include the work involved
for an item. Indirectly, it is also known as a specification.
Preambles are also one of the contents of a tender document or contract which is
a description to describe material and work in terms of type, quality and method. With
the existence of these Preambles, it is hoped that the contractor will provide references
on the construction work to ensure the work is in accordance with the specifications.
In the preparation of these Preambles, they are made based on trade
(craftsmanship) which refers to the standard method of measurement (SMM). In
appreciating each work for an item, this section should be referred to as the relevant
side of the work that should be appreciated together.
The importances of Preambles are :
So that the materials used are of high quality and quality
Explain the methods and techniques of work
Helping contractors understand work that should be valued in a job
Shorten workflow and save on paper taking off
References to terms such as described and as specified
Complete the information contained in the specification or any document
