5.8.10 Preliminaries

Also known as general items under the CESMM, this section contains the definition of
the scope of the works
It is initial works are integral parts explain things that are not measured in the list

of ingredients or indicated in the tender, but needed to implement and facilitate the
operations of the project.

This section is an essential part to be price (if applicable) by the tenderers for
part of the project cost. Generally it refers to matters required or done by the contractor
before, during and after project competion include information or perform the procedures

but not a cost, direction or condition of the contract to be complied with and matters that
should be implemented and cost.

It includes, inter alia particulars of the project, description of the site, details of
documentation, management arrangements, and services to be provided by the
contractor for his own benefit and the employer’s site team, eg accommodations,

utilities, general purpose plant and equipment, etc.
