Operating Guide for the JNN-Q25 Voice Recorder

The device, as supplied for the VJTF program, contains a flash memory of 16Gb, which is
the largest currently available. Storage capacity depends on the quality of the recording
although the ultimate limiting factor is battery life: as shown in Table 1:

Table 1: Recording quality, memory and battery capacity
You are advised NOT to change the default setting of 192bps (See paragraph xx) as it is more
than adequate for most purposes.
The battery has a life of 20 hours for playback and 16 hours for recording. It is not depleted
while the device is turned off in the AUTO RECORD mode (see paragraph xx) although
power is consumed in the voice activation mode even when the device is not recording.
The battery can be recharged in 2 hours by plugging one end of the USB cable or dongle
provided into the EARPHONE JACK (D) and the other into a computer or other USB power
source.
Always check that the battery is full before starting to record
The highly sensitive microphone is at the top of the device. It can record high quality audio
from 20 feet away for up to 16 hours in a single session.
The microphone should not be obstructed although it will operate through clothing.
The DISPLAY turns on automatically when the C switch is moved to RECORD or PLAY. It
dims after around 30 seconds of inactivity, but the device will continue to operate normally.
The DISPLAY will reappear when any button or switch is moved.
The metallic case is strong but very sensitive and touch. Touching the device in the recording
mode may have an adverse impact on sound quality as will the rustling of paper and
extraneous loud or ambient noises. The case is magnetic and will attach to metallic surfaces.
1.6 First time use
There is no backup provided for the CNN-Q25 software, no facility to download it and no
factory reset option. Thus, if the device crashes, recovery can present a serious problem.
We recommend that the provided software is backed-up in its entirity to a computer on first
use. Chances are it can be reloaded;
No attempt should be made to activate or change a PASSWORD or language setting until
you are familiar with the device’s operations;
Some devices appear determined to change the language, without notice, to Chinese which
can be very worrying. If this happens the menu and setting number remain as Roman
numerals.
