5 TO MAKE A NEW RECORDING
5.1 Preparation Page | 10
Before making a new recording, you should determine, and risk assess your objectives,
decide whether to record overtly, covertly (OR AT ALL) and where the device will be
placed.
These aspects are discussed in the VJTF program and are especially important if a recording
might be needed in legal proceedings.
Then make sure that:
• There is enough memory and battery power for the use proposed;
• The settings are correct;
• The microphone is not obstructed (Except by thin clothing);
Finally, make a test recording and check the playback.
5.2 Activation
Note that you cannot pause a recording, so you must turn the device off and start a new
file;
You cannot increase the recording volume: it is set automatically.
• Move switch C to “REC”. The DISPLAY will show (for example);
0025/025 Battery level
01025029
≥00:00:38
• A new file will be created automatically and given a sequence number (For example,
0025) and a UNIQUE FILE IDENTIFIER (For example, 01025029)
We recommend that you note down the UNIQUE FILE IDENTIFIER after each session. This
will make it easier for you to locate the file on playback;
• Stop the recording by pressing the A(+) and B(-) buttons simultaneously and the
COUNTER will stop. If this command does not register turn C switch to OFF;
• The device will shut down and scroll the word “BYE” on the DISPLAY. This indicates
that the file has been saved’
Recordings can be enhanced, volume increased and unwanted noise removed using a
program such as Wave Pad. They can also be professionally enhanced (see xx)
5.3 To record telephone conversations
The CNN Q-25 can be used to record telephone conversations either by (a) connecting a
hardwired audio feed from a landline or mobile telephone to the EARPHONE JACK (D) or
(b) to turn on the telephone’s loudspeaker.
