Tip: I highly recommend using clecos (Or similar) to
hold the template in place and test fi t/trim your
template material. Spending extra time on making
a quality template will help save time in the long
run. Also remember that the material you will
be using is most likely not as fl exible as paper/
cardboard template: I.e. if you have to bend or
manipulate the template to fi t into your location
then it won’t work as well with your fi nal material
because of the rigidity of steel/aluminum.
Step 5: Determine the material to be used on your panel:
Tip: Thickness of material required will vary based on size
of the panel, number of gauges, weight restraints,
etc. I normally use 18 gauge steel or stainless and put
some bead rolls or bends in it for added strength &
appearance. You can also use aluminum (I’ve used
anywhere from .050” to .250”, just depends what
you’re trying to do and if you beadroll it).
