The guy crazy Jerome had mentioned in his voicemail, Greg, had
been a mentor of ours from the beginning, he had retired from the
government and started his own business and grew his business
quickly. Tyrone and Greg had become close since I had introduced
them five years earlier. Greg saw the same great sales skills in Tyrone
that I had seen in the beginning. Jerome always hated that relationship;
at least Tyrone had enough sense to keep Jerome out of that
relationship, besides Greg had peeped out Jerome's M.O. years earlier.
We began to speak with Greg on how we should proceed with
our clients and closing out the contracts. I was adamant about making
sure the remaining employees stayed with the contracts we still had
left.
The agency transferred three of the contracts to other firms.
Tyrone had negotiated with Greg to work with our clients on
transferring our new contract to his firm. Little did I know, Tyrone
had also negotiated his new employment and salary. He gave me his
resignation in February, stating he would start work with Greg at the
beginning of March. I could not understand how he could bail out and
leave me hanging with the poop.
Reality began to sink in. I began to eliminate the things I could
not afford once the business closed. The first to go was the Mercedes.
I went to a Hyundai dealer to see if I could trade the car and get a
reasonable car payment. I must have been out of my mind, by then
my credit was shot and I was so upside down on the car, no one would
