At this point I feel I need to mention that if Dr. Chandler
really believed his son was sexually molested, why didn't he
go to the police like most parents would in this situation? It is
human instinct to want to see a perpetrator brought to justice
for their crime. When the crime involves a child, the intensity
for wanting justice, not money, is even higher. Although our
legal system allows us to seek both justice and money, in this
case Dr. Chandler only went after the money. Instead of filing
criminal charges against Michael Jackson, Dr. Chandler com-
menced negotiating terms for a twenty million dollar movie
deal.
Dr. Chandler appeared to be a very insecure man who was
dominated by greed. The Bible says that "the love of money is
the root of all evil." Dr. Chandler was the epitome of what the
love of money can do to an individual. How the lust of money
can turn an individual into a green-eyed monster with no re-
gard for anyone - including their own child. Perhaps in some
people's mind money can solve all problems. If that were so,
why is it that so many people with wealth still have no peace
or joy in their life? Money does nothing more than give the
bearer access to natural resources and services, but it cannot
buy peace or joy. Peace and joy only come from God and can-
not be bought, rather it is given.
Dr. Chandler was clear about his intentions from the be-
ginning. He stated in his conversation with Dave Schwartz, "I
found the nastiest son-of-a-bitch I could find..." and "all he
wants to do is humiliate as many people as he can." He was, of
course, talking about my former employer, Barry Rothman.
Dr. Chandler admitted that these are Mr. Rothman's key char-
acter traits.
