(E) For most nouns ending in ‘f’ or ‘fe’ , we form the plurals by changing or
‘fe’ into ‘ves’.
Examples : Singular Plural
calf + ves = calves
knife + ves = knives
wolf + ves = wolves
thief + ves = thieves
leaf + ves = leaves
half + ves = halves
(F) Most nouns ending in ‘o’ form the plural by ending ‘es’ .
Examples : Singular Plural
potato + es = potatoes
tomato + es = tomatoes
mosquito + es = mosquitoes
buffalo + es = buffaloes
hero + es = heroes
mango + es = mangoes
radio + es = radioes
There are some nouns which do not follow these rules :
(G) Nouns which do not change in plural.
