To Submit is to put oneself under the control of another. That is to acknowledge

the leadership/authority of another over you.

The place of respect and submission in marriage is mutual(Eph. 5:21 says;
submitting yourselves one to another….), but here we are looking at this topic in
relation to the role of the woman in this, considering the fact that God gave an

express and specific instruction for the woman to submit to her own husband.

The home can be likened to an organization, and in every organization there is a
leader; someone in charge. Usually whoever is in charge must be respected and

submitted to by everyone in the organization. The man (husband) is the head;
leader and the one in charge of this organization called the home and therefore
should be respected. We must remember that no woman marries a man she has

no regards for. We marry men that we respect and hold in high esteem, after all
you chose him over all the men in this world.

Submission must be seen by every woman as a God given responsibility which

when neglected will result in grave consequences. It is the secret of every woman
who wants to enjoy her marriage. Submission does not mean losing one’s identity
or personality, it is a sign of humility and obedience to God’s instruction. For

anyone to be able to submit, they must be humble. Pride is an enemy and it
destroys every good thing including marriage. Submission and humility cannot

easily be separated especially in marriage. You can still be the intelligent beautiful
woman of wisdom that you are, making wise suggestions and contributions to

your husband while completely submitting to him.

How do I submit?

You must make deliberate and conscious effort to submit.

Yield your heart to God: The most effective means to respect and submission is
to yield oneself to God. A heart that is completely yielded and submitted to the

will of God obeys Him without problems and so finds it quite easy to submit to
anyone. If a woman buries herself in obeying the word of God and pleasing Him,

the matter of submission to her husband will not be a big issue. Remember it is an
