The purpose of governance is to make sure that investments generate value

and that risks are mitigated. This is not a new thing brought on by cloud
computing; every organization does this in some way. Companies adopt
cloud solutions for many reasons such as to facilitate innovation or to
quickly provision temporary computing capacity. Because of these and many
other reasons, cloud computing introduces new issues related to
governance, such as regulatory compliance, which in the past might have

been the sole responsibility of an organization but which now include the
cloud provider.
