awo” to “Lopburi”
Muang Lopburi, formerly called “Lawo” was located on the east coast
of the Gulf of Thailand’s estuaries which used to protrude into the land 6,000
years ago. Subsequently, no more than 1,000 years ago, a decrease in sea
water level made the coastline retreat to the present location. This caused a
flood at “Lum Jansen” north of Lopburi, which used to be a port and an
administrative center in the Chao Phraya River basin.
