 บางพาน                                                                                                In 2011, Barend Jan Terwiel analysed
                                                                                              the river map drafted by Françcoins Valentijn and
                                                                                            published during the reign of King Narai the Great.
                                                                                          The map consisted of three parts with different scales.

                                                                                            the Gulf of Thailand to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya,

                                                                                                      based on the information collected by
                                                                                                  European visitors who had visited Thailand.

                    8 km.                                                                  The third part included a vast territory from the area
                                                                                           subsequent to Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya to Isan land
                                                                                           in the northeast despite the fact that there had been
                                                                                                      no evidence or reports about European
                                                                                          visits in this region during that period. When comparing
                                                                                           the information about routes and places on the map
                                                                                          as well as its model with the strategic map in the reign of
                                                                                                    King Ramathibodi I, it was understood that
                                                                                                 the strategic map was based on the information
                                                                                          available in the original strategic map used in that period.
                                                                                                 It was concluded that the original strategic map
                                                                                                      used as an underlying model of the map
                                                                                                     from the reign of King Ramathibodi I was
                                                                                              a local map made before the arrival of Europeans,
 De Groote Siamese Rivier Me-nam, as published by Francois Valentijn (after Barend Jan     Terwiel in ABHINANDANAMALA : Nandana Chutiwongs, 2010)  and prior to the reign of King Narai the Great.
