ong Han”
in the local Isan legend
“Thao Pha Daeng Nang Ai”
“Nong Han” is a large fresh water lake,
located in “Sakon Nakhon basin”. Its geological
structure was supported by sedimentary rocks
of the same type as Maha Sarakham rock salt.
Due to the fact that drainage water flowing to
Nong Han was absorbed into the ground,
the thick underground layers of salt melted and
caused the land to subside before it became a large
fresh water lake. Nong Han Lake comprises
“Nong Han Kumpha Wapi” and “Nong Han
Sakon Nakhon” where ancient cities with city
walls and moats are located. The cities are
known as “Wiang Nong Han Kumpha Wapi”
or “Muang Boran Ban Don Kaew”
and “Wiang Nong Han Sakon Nakhon”
or “Muang Boran Sakon Nakhon”.
