Ivythorn
It has been another fantastic year in Ivythorn,
Millfield’s Year 9 co-educational day house.
We were delighted to welcome 62 students
in September. Our three-day camp at the
end of the first week was brilliant and helped
everyone to feel that they had been at the
school for many weeks. Everyone very quickly
settled into their busy and fun daily routines.
There followed a myriad of education, sports
training and matches, music performances
and competitions, LAMDA lessons and drama
and dance performances. The grand finale
was the Year 9 camp in Cornwall which was
enjoyed by all. We wish all of our amazing
young people continued success as they
move up to senior houses or make new starts
elsewhere in the world.
Joan’s Kitchen
From the very start of the year, our newest arrivals
in September settled in seamlessly, thanks in no
small part to the kindness and leadership of the
Upper Sixth. They have been more than just role
models – they have been the heart and soul of the
house, helping to maintain the perfect blend of
camaraderie, calm, and character. Throughout the
year, the boys have enjoyed success in every corner
of Millfield life – academic, sporting, musical, and
beyond. From securing places at top universities to
winning High Gun at a clay shooting competition,
completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards,
and scoring multiple centuries – including a double
century – on the cricket field, their achievements
have been as varied as they are impressive.
The icing on the cake has undoubtedly been
Joan’s Kitchen’s performance in the interhouse
competitions – a true testament to their teamwork
and tenacity. The record books will surely show
that JK were the house to beat in 2025!
