B.2 Sports
Sports in general are excellent activities which help in the process of getting rid of
unnecessary stress and building health. Although that is important, for me sports are a method to
train myself in psychological terms. They help me develop and maintain the right mindset that I
require to excel in daily activities. Both team and individual sports require the right motivation,
courage, discipline and concentration to play. The same is required at a work-environment, hence
the mastery of the mental skills that are needed in sports would be greatly beneficial to any
career. Confidence is a crucial component in most workplaces as well as sports, and can be
developed through continuous participation in sporting activities. Personally, as I was able to
build on my swimming abilities over the past few years, I became more confident in my skills.
Subsequently, this confidence was reflected in other aspects of my life such as my presentation
skills. Furthermore, relationships are built in sports, which in itself is a great way to not only
make friends, but expand interpersonal skills such as communication, problem solving, and
decision making. In conclusion, sports are an important interest of mine because it allows me to
become a well-rounded and balanced individual.
B.3 Volunteering
“Volunteering allows students to get involved with new things and develop technical,
social, and academic skills that couldn’t be learned in a classroom environment. Whether you’re
helping out at your local library or tutoring underprivileged kids, volunteering allows you to
experience different environments and situations.”
-Alexis Zimmer
This quote is a reflection of my personal beliefs, as in my perspective, even though
volunteer work requires a lot of time dedication and effort, it allows character building. It has the
capacity to bring out new interests, as well as new hobbies, opinions and friends depending on
the activity. This is why I feel that volunteering has the potential to guide me through exploring
different careers to check my aptitude for them. Although volunteering poses benefits to my
future career, it also helps me be a part of the community, aside from the connections I have with
family and friends. That in itself, makes volunteering a valuable experience for me, which I
obviously intend to make the most out of. All in all, volunteering is an interest that provides
many benefits for me, not academically, but to help the transition of integrating me into society.
