                           Process design





               4.1   Introduction

               The way in which an organisation’s activities (as described in the value chain)
               function and interrelate constitute an organisation’s processes.



                               Process design is the method by which individual specialists seek
                               to understand business activities and ensure that these activities
                               are designed to be as efficient and effective as possible.


               Processes may be improved using methods such as:

                    process maps

                    supply chain management

                    reorganisation to reflect processes and not functions.

                    BPR (Chapter 5)

                    TQM (Chapter 9)

                    Kaizen (Chapter 9).
