Managing the change process (change leadership)

                           Stage models of change

Change can be managed in many different ways. Three popular models are as
               follows.

               1.1 The organisational ice-cube (three-stage model) – Lewin

Lewin suggested three stages to manage change.

 Unfreeze – convince staff of the need for change.

                            Movement/change – enacting the change.

 Refreezing – ensuring staff do not fall back into the old ways.

               1.2 Forcefield analysis – Lewin

Change will only happen if driving forces (pushing change forward) are
greater than the restraining forces (pushing against change). Therefore it
                           is vital that managers:

                            strengthen the driving forces

                            weaken the restraining forces.
