Leadership style – Kotter and Schlesinger

Kotter and Schlesinger suggested six leadership styles to managing
resistance from staff.

Participation

Facilitation and Education and
support communication

Manipulation Power/coercion
and co-optation

Negotiation

Note that manipulation and co-optation involve distorting facts to support the
proposed change to be made. This would breach CIMA’s Code of Fundamental
Ethics.
