II. Drawings – for package components
a. Each component drawing along with referenced specifications and drawings must be
submitted with each First Article.
b. Each dimension and note must be ballooned (numbered)
III. Dimensional Results – for package components
a. A one piece dimensional layout is required for each mold, cavity, die and production line
that produces a package component.
b. Dimensional results must be provided for all dimensions, notes and other specifications
on the component drawing.
c. The dimensional layout must correspond to the ballooned drawing.
IV. Process Capability Studies
a. Process Capability Studies should be completed for all special characteristic dimensions
as determined by Sun
b. All special characteristics must have Cpk => 1.33 or Ppk =>1.67, Cr < 0.75 and ∆Z< 0.5
V. Samples
a. For package materials, suppliers may be required to submit component parts for each
cavity with each First Article Submission.
b. Chemicals samples shall be representative of the production run.
c. Each sample product must have a tag indicating it is a First Article sample. The tag
should include part number, revision level, date components were produced, supplier
name, and cavity number.
Suppliers may be able to submit one First Article submission for a family of components. Sun will notify the
supplier when this type of submission is necessary.
No First Articles should be submitted to Sun if any dimensions or test results do not meet specification or
component drawing requirements. Supplier shall make every attempt to implement corrective action for any
out of spec condition. Suppliers shall contact Sun R&D Technical Group and/or Sun Package Development Group
if they are unable to meet specification requirements. Sun will then inform suppliers on required course of
action.
12 • •• • TEMPORARY DEVIATION REQUEST
If a supplier manufactures product that does not conform to Sun specifications and lead-time does not allow
permanent corrective action due to Sun production requirements a temporary deviation request must be
submitted to Sun Quality and/or Sun R&D and approved prior to shipping non-conforming material.
Sun approval will be based on how deviations might impact the performance, form, fit and function of the
materials/components.
Deviation requests must include details of the non-conformance and the amount of materials/components
affected. Sun OOS Temporary Deviation Request form may be used.
If the deviation is not approved, the supplier may not release the product. Unapproved product will be rejected.
