and you don’t want to be watching what you eat. Cheating is therefore
possible – in moderation, of course.

        The cons

You may lose weight, but you might not get healthy. Really, only drinking a
litre of Coke a day? You’ll probably end up diabetic with liver failure, and you
will get sick because you have severely starved your body of nutrients. This is
not what they advocate, of course, so you will have to touch a vegetable and
a piece of fruit, but there are ways to stay under the points allotment and still
be unhealthy by polishing off an entire loaf of bread (on your own).

Besides that, like Weigh-Less, counting points can be laborious – especially if
you don’t know the value of points attached to what you are eating. The
way around that is the purchase of a book which lists the points values of
many ingredients, as well as certain take-aways and ready-to-eat products
you will find on the shelves.

The eating plans we are giving you here take the guesswork out of the points,
and what’s nice about these plans, like Weight Watchers, is that you can eat
complex carbs for the energy that they will give your body. In moderation, as
we have laid them out for you here, carbohydrates can be very effectively
        used in weight loss programmes.

        Our take on the matter

Weight Watchers works very well if you are able to maintain the status quo,
i.e. if your life pattern doesn’t change dramatically. One of our friends very
successfully lost a considerable amount of weight on this progamme, but
then got married, which meant a change in eating patterns and types of food.
As a result, over time, the weight was gained back.
