head. Related to this is what our friend likes to refer to as a “convenigan” –
that would be a person who is only vegan as long as it’s convenient, and
meanwhile sneaks a piece of meat at the odd family braai.
But if the eater follows a strict vegan regimen, after an initial period of
feeling horrible due to the detox, weight loss is consistent and you end up
feeling much better.
The pros
You never have to look at your favourite cow or the chicken you named and
think, “Hello dinner.” We know people on the other side of the spectrum
who named their cow “Deep Freeze” and their chicken “Spatchcock.” The
diet, of course, will also force you to eat more fruit and vegetables, so your
regular dose of 5-a-day for healthier living will become stock standard for
you.
There is a strong community of support on social media around especially
vegan eating, and the group is usually empowered both mentally and
financially, so it’s great for networking.
If you have the discipline to see it through, you will most certainly lose
weight and maintain a healthy body.
The cons
It does restrict your food intake in that your choices become more limited –
especially if you are vegan or raw vegan.
There also seems to be evidence that only eating veggies means you remain
hungry all the time. But this evidence has only been our own empirical
evidence, i.e. that which we have observed through our own senses.
