Excessive exercise can be damaging to the body, especially if coupled with
poor eating. We have seen Bruce Fordyce in the flesh, so to speak, and
although his commitment to running the Comrades is absolutely admirable,
his frame looks a little out of balance. Has too much running been
detrimental to his health? We also know of at least one person who died
immediately after coming off a treadmill – of course, that could be because
there were underlying health problems, which had nothing to do with the
        exercise per se.

Your eating plan for this type of diet programme

This is where Banting will probably lose the plot, because you are going to
need carbohydrates when you exercise – how else will your body have the
energy it needs to work out? Some advocates of IF do not believe this is true
and are adamant that your body will burn fat stores if you exercise without
eating. However, your blood sugar may disagree with you – you might even
end up feeling light-headed and fainting without food, or the fasting
combo’ed with exercise could lead to dehydration, which is why:

Another important consideration is hydration. You might find that you are
starving after a workout, and all you want to do is eat, which negates all that
exercise you’ve just done. What you actually might be is just thirsty – not
hungry. Make sure that you are getting enough water when you work out.

Let’s see how many calories you burn with exercise, and then let’s contrast
that with how many calories you consume with certain meals:

             5km run = 300 calories
             45-minute Zumba class = 350 calories
             45-minute gym session = 200 calories

After exercise, you decide to hit the town for a night of partying:
